Anansi the Spider

I’m directing a new adaptation of Anansi the Spider for MTC’s School Tour program in 2012.  Tommy Shepherd and Dan Wolf will write and perform.

Ana loves stories, and wants the other kids to act them out the way they’re written. But when she finds herself caught up in the legend of Anansi and the Sky God, with music, beats and rhymes creating a world of magic and mystery, Ana discovers that sometimes you have to write your own story—and that writing your own story might be the most exciting thing you can do.

The African folktale is updated, reimagined, and filled with music, beats and rhymes in this new play for elementary schoolers, specially commissioned by Marin Theatre Company.

The show will tour to elementary schools in February and March 2012. There will be public performances at MTC on March 24, 25, and 31.

Toil and Trouble by Lauren Gunderson

I directed a workshop and reading of Toil And/Or Trouble, a new play by Lauren Gunderson, as a part of Just Theater’s New Play Lab. Starring Michael Barrett Austin, Anthony Nemirovsky, and Alex Chreighton.

Two ambitious young men and one badass lady fight the recession with dictatorial dreams: instead of going back to grad school like everyone else in business… why not take over a small country? Seriously. No I’m serious.

I previously directed two touring productions of Lauren’s A Short History of Nearly Everything for MTC.

Welcome to my online stage directing portfolio. This site is undergoing renovations; the basic info is here but more images and video from past productions will be added soon.

I’m currently seeking a freelance directing gig for the 2012/13 season — I have a few scripts I’m shopping around, and I’m open to other possibilities.
